50% of people over the age of 60 suffer from cataracts, a progressive clouding of the natural lens in the eye. With no medical treatment currently available to prevent or reverse the development of cataracts, those who suffer from this disease look to cataract surgery to clear their vision.
Dr Akbar Eye Hospital offers state-of-the-art treatment options, which are conducted by our expert surgeons to those who are suffering from clouded vision caused by cataracts. As a result of advances in technology, cataract correction treatments have become one of the most successful medical procedures that are performed.
The procedure is simple and involves inserting an intraocular lens into the eye through a micro-incision, replacing the clouded lens. Taking only minutes to complete, doctors are able to send patients home the same day as their procedure.
If you said yes to any of the questions listed above, it may be time to schedule an appointment and get the quality treatment you deserve. Contact us and request an appointment today.
The ultimate goal of any eye surgery is to improve your vision. This is why all corrective surgery decisions should be discussed with an experienced Dr Akbar Eye Hospital ophthalmologist or optometrist.
After a complete eye exam has been performed, the doctor will provide you with additional information and answer all questions you may have to help you make an informed and educated decision.
Dr Akbar Eye Hospital requires that all patients arrive to the surgery center at least one-hour before their procedure is scheduled to begin.
After you are checked-in, eye drops will be applied to the eyes to prepare you for surgery. Once in the operating room, your eyes will be cleaned and local anesthetic will be applied.
During the procedure, a small incision will be made and a tiny probe will be used to break-up the cataract using high-energy sound waves. The incision requires no stitches and typically heals fast. Once the cataract is removed, an intraocular lens implant will be inserted.
Patients are free to return home soon after surgery and are encouraged to rest for the remainder of the day. Everyone has a different healing rate, but many patients experience improved vision almost immediately after the procedure. Most patients are able to return to their normal activities within one to two days after surgery.
Once cataracts are removed, they cannot grow back. However, the tissue behind the implant may cloud over time and cause blurred vision. This clouded vision can be corrected in our office using a laser to restore clear vision.
